This poster was created for the Marc H. Choko Poster Contest, an annual contest open to all post-secondary students studying graphic design in Quebec. It focuses its themes around social issues to encourage contestants to use design as a way to message important questions in our society.

The theme for 2022 was “internet entre haine et liberte” (Internet between hate and freedom). This theme explores the boundaries of the freedom to hate on the internet. By understanding this debate, my idea was to create a divided earth caged by the internet symbol. The cage aims to represent how the internet has immense influence over the real world’s tolerance of hate and freedom. Vibrant red is used to emphasize the idea of danger and importance associated with this topic. The word “haine” has its vowels changed to character symbols that are used in censorship which is also a topic pertinent to this theme.
My end goal was to create a thought-provoking and clever poster. Reaching this result took a lot of different digital and hands-on approaches. Producing a visual to represent this complex issue was an experience that I very much enjoyed.
